I will review one of the bags from High Sierra Sport Company— 30-Inch Wheeled Cargo Duffel!

Go for style. Go for function. With it’s carry-all convenience and distinctive style, their 30″ Wheeled Cargo Duffel features an easy-access main compartment, side-load end compartments for shoes or additional gear, and a zippered front accessory pocket for tickets, maps, or other gear you need within quick reach. What I love about this duffel is the style and number of pockets. It is so cute and chic. It adds a little pattern to it that shines personality. I was pleasantly surprised at how many pockets there were. It has a large main compartment with U-shaped zippered opening for easy packing, a two, side-load end compartments hold clothing, shoes and accessories, and a front pocket is perfect for quick-access items. *My opinions. Please do not be offended*

Twilight_book.jpg picture by jaebumfangirl3

I am an avid reader and one who LOVES series novels, so it was only natural for me to finally pick up Twilight to see what all the buzz was about. The Harry Potter series and the Lord of the Rings trilogy caught my attention because of the press, and I throughly enjoyed those two. So I finally decided to check out Twilight by Stephenie Meyer from the library last week.

Let me sum up my experience with an analogy. Reading Twilight was equivalent to eating a week old Chipotle burrito. Just as I love to eat Chipotle, I love to read all kinds of books. The problems with the burrito in front of me is that it is stale and messy. The problems with the book is that it is cliché and unorganized. I can’t recognize the rice anymore; I can’t understand the character’s motives. Although the burrito is eatable and the book is readable, I have the same aftermath for both—regret.

Before all the Twilight fans get angry at me (which they have every right to explain to me why I am wrong), I want to say that I have no problems with the fans themselves. Some hate the saga because of the fans. I roll my eyes when I read or hear about this. It is called passion. These girls (and boys) are passionate about something. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but it becomes hateful when you attack others for their opinions. Leave these girls alone, and actually write/tell the world why you don’t like the Twilight saga other then a superficial reason like the fans themselves.

Now let’s discuss why I didn’t enjoy the book…

My biggest problem with the book was the writing. I can’t easily tell when a book is well written, but I can when it isn’t. I am not going to bash Stephenie Meyer as if she was the worst writer to be published. If you actually read the books in the young adult section of the library, you would know a lot of authors in this genre suck at writing. That is why I have a hard time reading teen books. It is not Meyer’s fault, but rather the publishers. Literature has become more about profit then art. It is more about the story then the words. It should be both.

Another critique I had with Twilight was the unbelievable characters. Not that they are brilliant one-of-a-kind characters, I mean that they are not believable. I understand that this is fantasy, and does not need to follow the rational laws of the real world. I just have a hard time identifying with a character who pry into this perfect vampire’s business and demands questions which she has no right of knowing. Bella is not a likeable person like other main characters, but rather a nosy teenager who is bored. Instead of having to face the dangers because of circumstance, Bella seeks it. This is why I don’t understand the Twilight character’s motives. Any real person would run away if they knew a vampire, or at least get a restraining order for stalking. Maybe I am just being too rational?

As for the vamps, I have no problem with them being perfect or “sparkle”. This is Meyer’s world, and she can make any non-human do whatever they want to do.

I was annoyed at how quickly they fell in love, but if you ever was a teenager, you know that “love” can be quick and superficial. Bella and Edward ARE teenagers, and therefore fall in “love” just like teenagers (…wait, isn’t Edward over hundred?). This romance is equivalent to Romeo & Juliet and every Disney movie out there. I have no problem with it (only slightly annoyed).

Another part of the book I was annoyed at was Bella’s clumsiness. I found that “character flaw” to be a failed attempt in making Bella seem more real. It would have been better if she bit her nails to help calm her down or something that actually showed a little more realism and personality. I don’t know a single person who just is prone to falling.

My last criticism is the absence of a plot. Where is this going? Why are the subplots happening? What is the real conflict? Why do I need to follow these characters beyond the first book? Another words, I. just. don’t. get. it.

If you are a Twilight fan, please tell me why I am wrong. Would love to hear it, and hopefully I can understand more about this phenomenon ;)
