HOW DORMIFY CAME TO BE
As an incoming freshman at Washington University, decorating her dorm room was Amanda Zuckerman’s number one priority. But when she and her mom Karen started their shopping, they were shocked at the complete lack of chic, cool design options. Navy-colored jersey sheets. Uninspiring lighting options. Sad, flimsy picture frames. Nothing was feeling stylish. Or fun. Or sophisticated.
It was a downer of a shopping trip and Amanda began hating the words “Twin XL.” But then, the two started wondering: why can’t we make creative, inspiring dorm décor products ourselves?
Karen got right to work. As CEO and Chief Creative Officer of an incredibly successful design and advertising agency outside Washington, DC, Karen was used to having big ideas. But this one felt bigger. Much bigger. So she started brainstorming and sketching. Dreaming and designing. Creating and collaborating. And soon, Dormify was born.
